    Cyberattack on Hungarian banks and telecommunication services

    Hungarian banks and telecommunications services were interrupted by a cyberattack on Thursday, September 24, 2020, and it was launched from servers in Russia, China & Vietnam, confirmed by telecom firm Magyar Telekom MTEL, BU on Saturday, September 26, 2020.

    It was a DDoS( Distributed Denial of service) attack and it is a cyber attack in which hackers attempt to flood a network with unusually high volumes of data traffic in order to damage or paralyze it. This time the volume of traffic was 10 times higher than the amount usually seen in DDoS.

    According to this attack it was one of the biggest hacker attacks in Hungary ever.

    The hackers tried to launch a DDoS attack against Hungarian financial institutions, later they tried to flood into the networks of Magyar Telekom as well.

    Hungarian bank OTP bank OTPB.BU also confirmed that it had been affected by the cyber attack.
