The United States commerce will issue an order today and will restrict people in the USA from downloading Chinese app WeChat and TikTok starting on September 20.
ByteDance is in process with Oracle Corp to create a new company, TikTok Global, but ByteDance still needs Trump’s approval to stave off a United States ban.
The order will not impact doing business on WeChat outside the United States and this is a piece of welcome news to Unites States firms like Walmart and Starbucks that use WeChat’s embedded ‘mini-app’ programs to facilitate transactions and engage customers in China.
U.S officials said they were taking these extraordinary steps because of the risks the app’s data collection poses but China and the companies have denied U.S. users data is collected for spying.
