HCL Technologies, under the leadership of CEO C Vijayakumar, aims to have approximately 70% of its employees return to physical workspaces by the end of the current fiscal year. The company plans to maintain a hybrid work model that caters to employees’ needs. HCLTech has witnessed a gradual increase in the number of employees returning to office spaces.
Flexible work options were implemented in the IT industry at the beginning of the pandemic. As the situation improves, technology companies are focusing on bringing employees back to the office for a certain number of days each week. HCLTech has experienced a gradual return of employees to office cubicles, resulting in increased regular occupancy.
HCLTech follows a hybrid-first virtual operating model based on necessity. The company expects employees to come to the office three days a week and has seen modest success in this regard. Currently, at least half of their employees work in offices three days a week, and this number continues to rise.
The approach to returning to offices depends on project requirements. By the end of this year, the CEO expects that around 70-75% of employees may return to physical workspaces. However, this process will be gradual, considering factors such as employees relocating to smaller towns.
Employees have expressed mixed responses to returning to the office, with some eager to come back and others preferring remote work. Vijayakumar clarified that these differences are not generational but rather based on personal situations, preferences, and comfort zones. The company respects individual factors and aims to create a work environment that accommodates diverse needs and preferences.
